Why order extra boxes for wastage?

Cutting tiles around edges, doors, and corners always wastes some material — 5-10% is typical for simple rectangular rooms, rising to 15% or more for diagonal layouts or rooms with lots of corners. Ordering short means a second dispatch on a different production batch, which can carry a slightly different shade — a real problem for large-format and polished tiles.

Grout quantity depends on the tile size, joint width, and joint depth — smaller tiles need proportionally more grout since there's more joint length per square foot. Adhesive coverage depends on the trowel notch size and tile format; large-format and vitrified tiles typically need a thicker adhesive bed.
